SOLD OUT - THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO PURCHASED THIS LIMITED EDITION

Introducing a 100% original sculpture resin depicting an Akhal-Teke in motion. This mare is approximately 1/13th scale (about Classic-scale) and stands approximately 7 inches tall at the eartips on her removable base. She is cast in high quality polyurethane resin by a professional caster and available unpainted, and occasionally painted copies will be offered for sale.

I spent a year researching Akhal-Tekes by studying hundreds of photos and videos and reading about the history and environment of the breed. Near the completion of the sculpture, I worked with a few Teke breeders and owners to verify the accuracy of the sculpture and refine the details. The sculpture has been praised by breeders for its accurate conformation.

This resin is excellent for those artists who want to paint a correct sculpture quickly for resale, but don't have the time to paint a large-scale model. For collectors, she's large enough to make an impact in the show ring, but small enough to be affordable and easy to transport to shows. View more photos of her.

SCULPTURAL DETAILS: I tried to capture that brief moment when a proud Akhal-Teke mare is about two strides into a trot at liberty. She's arching her neck proudly and flaring her nostrils slightly. Because of the way Akhal-Tekes' necks are built, they often arch their necks differently than other breeds. One Akhal-Teke owner describes it as "the Teke inverted neck." The base features sculpted sand, rocks, and sand waves.

I stopped keeping track of the number of hours I put into this sculpture, mainly because I worked on it occasionally over a span of a year. There are easily 100 hours of work in the sculpture, and possible twice that.

She's very detailed with the following features:

  • Hooded Teke eyes
  • Wrinkles in the armpits, on the neck & flexed pasterns
  • Whisker bumps on muzzle & around eyes
  • Veining on the belly, sides of the barrel, buttocks & head
  • Bottoms of the hooves are sculpted
  • Detailed muscling
  • Young mare udders
  • Short, thin mane & thin tail
BREEDS: Here are just a few suggestions for showing this mare:
  • Akhal-Teke: The exotic Akhal-Teke hails from the Turkmenistan desert, which was once a Soviet republic.
  • Nez Perce Horse: The Nez Perce Nation is attempting to reestablish their horses' original breed type by crossing Akhal-Tekes with Appaloosas.
  • Anglo-Teke: Crossing Thoroughbreds with Akhal-Tekes produces an athletic sporthorse.
Akhal-Tekes are also occasionally crossed with Quarter Horses, Paint Horses, Arabians, and Saddlebreds to produce athletic riding horses.

Bay, chestnut, grey, and black are commonly found in Akhal-Tekes and their crosses. The cream gene exists in Akhal-Tekes, so palomino, buckskin, cremello, perlino, smokey black, and smokey cream are possible colors for this sculpture. In addition, champagne, although rare, can be found in Akhal-Tekes, which opens the door to all the colors of champagne as well as cream + champagne combinations.
